What are enzymes?
The human body requires certain raw material for energy, growth, repair and maintaining homeostasis. These materials are proteins, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water.  But this material is not going to automatically become energy, the material for growth and repair or readily be available for the body to maintain homeostasis.  This is where the enzymes come into play.   Enzymes are the workers of the body.  They simply get work done.  Enzymes breakdown the food we consume and liberates the nutrients needed for the body to create energy, grow, repair and maintain homeostasis.  If we did not have enzymes, we would not be alive.  We would be a big pile of lifeless compounds.  Enzymes are the spark of life.  Once we run out of enzymes, our life will cease to exist.

There are 3 categories of enzymes:
Food enzymes – enzymes that are present in raw food.
Digestive enzymes – enzymes that digest the food we eat.
Metabolic enzymes – enzymes that run our bodies. 1

How do we become deficient in enzymes?
• Processing or genetically modifying food destroys enzymes
• Cooking food above 118 degrees destroys enzymes
• Therefore consuming processed, genetically modified and cooked foods requires our body to use more enzymes
• Stress uses more of our body’s enzymes

Stress

Dr. Hans Selye is unquestionably one of the great pioneers of medicine. He has authored 40 books, written over 1700 technical articles for scientific journals and has won many prestigious awards including several nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. He spent over 50 years researching stress and its affects on the human body. His conclusion in all of his decades of research is this, “Stress is a specific entity and is the only disease we have to fight as humans.” Did you know that stress comes in three forms? Stress is expressed within these categories: Mechanical, Emotional, and Nutritional. What this means according to Selye is that there are literally only three causes of the majority of the diseases that we face. Selye’s research also discovered that regardless which source thestress comes from, the body fights these three forms of stress in exactly the same manner. Physiologically, the body simply burns more nutrition, creates more waste and uses up your enzymes in the process.

What is mechanical stress?

Mechanical or structural stress is simply a mechanical restriction or imbalance somewhere in the body. A few examples: subluxations in your spine, a rotated pelvis from tight muscles which causes one leg to become shorter than the other, or Morton’s Syndrome (where your second toe is longer than your big toe), just to name a few.

What is emotional stress?

Who does not have some form of emotional stress? Emotional stress from the past, present or future can be caused by issues with yourself, your significant other, family, friends, co-workers or just life in general.

What is a nutritional stress?

You can experience this kind of stress by choosing to consume too much low quality or processed food. Or your body might have the inability to digest your food properly. The body runs on three things: protein, fat and carbs. If you cannot digest one, two or a combination of the three, that is a major nutritional stress to your body every time you eat that item. This makes the body work much harder trying to get that undigested food out of your system.  Your lymphatic system can become congested and toxic.  This accumulation of toxins is the perfect environment for functional conditions and disease to set up shop.


Your Body

The human body needs stimulation and needs a certain amount of stress every day for it to thrive. But it is the excessive amounts of stress or the stress that is present on your body for long periods of time that wears down your body. When your stress levels are high you do not digest your food well. A common misconception is that the food we eat is automatically digested, absorbed and utilized 100% by our body. Just because you stick food in your mouth, chew and swallow it, does not mean that it is 100% digested, absorbed and utilized by your body. When stress levels are high, digestion is always compromised and it is only a matter of time before the body expresses some type of symptoms. You add even more time to this vicious cycle and you have a disease process that starts to accumulate in your body.

Common symptoms of compromised digestion are:

Constipation, diarrhea, bloating, cramping, food cravings, feeling sleepy after eating, inability to think clearly, fatigue, that extra 20 pounds, blood sugar problems, stiffness, allergies and headaches. ALL of these “symptoms” have ONE thing in common. What is it? They are all symptoms of enzyme deficiencies in your body.
